Hi,

To the point. My rig currently is i5-3570k, 32gb ram, Titan X 12gb, Windows 8.1 64-bit. Psu: Silent pro 800w. Using VR, depending on games, i've notice I've had quite a few missing frames, the gpu is hardly even hot at 70c but the cpu is maxed out when i'm missing frames. It seems I need to upgrade.

I don't know much about cpu's. My motherboard is a Gigabyte Z77-DS3H. Which cpu would you think would be the best to switch for (and that would fit the socket) having VR in mind.
Also, is switching a cpu as straight forward as changing graphics card ? Just wondering.

Thanks for your time.

Not much choice really, i7 3770K or bust. How much have you overlocked your i5? You might be able to find a used four core Xeon cheap that will give you Hyperthreading.

Changing CPUs from the i5 you have to an i7 3770K should be close to 'plug and play'.

Yes. It seems that its not that much better though. Does this mean I need to change my motherboard? oh no.

Is there a big difference between the i5 and the i7 3770k? cpu boss even seems to favor the i5.
I'm under the impression I have to change my motherboard to fit something beefier.

How much have you overclocked your i5?

Hyperthreading is of limited value for gaming and I'm surprised that your are doing so badly, its a decent CPU (i5 3570K)

Are you doing VR now? What resolution and refresh are you using now? VR will move some of the load from the CPU to the GPU because of the higher 'resolution' and refresh rate.

The i5 is not overclocked at all. I never needed to so i never meddled with it. It seems that its just now with VR that its causing an issue.
The headset is the Vive, Overall it works ok but in some power draining games or videos that could be poorly optimized, the gpu does not flinch but the i5 is on full load and inevitably causes missed frames, some times many. Maybe there is a way to switch the heavy lifting towards the gpu? I
