Hi There

I am set on buying a 3440x1440p Ultrawide Monitor, although prior to making this decision i purchased a R9 290X 8Gb Reference card with a G10/Kraken cooler attached. I bought it from a friend who was upgrading for $140USD / $200AUD.

Obviously i realize that a 290X isn't going to cut it. Do you think the best approach would be to source another R9 290x or R9 390 and crossfire them? I'm not fully across the whole crossfire/SLI thing yet.

Or would the best thing to do be try and sell the R9 290x and maybe get a GTX 980ti which will stretch my budget and cause me to downgrade other parts used in the build.

I live in Australia, any aussies on here got any idea if
a). A R9 290X 8G (Kraken G10/X31 Cooler) would sell on ebay
b). Approx price in AUD?

l could pick up a brand new R9 390 in Australia for 400, (Ebay prices for used ones are the same price). Or 980ti for $800 - 900.

P.S Aaarrrggg wish shipping from US wasn't so expensive, would be so much cheaper even with shit exchange rate.

I would suggest to try and save for a 1080 if you're going to that resolution.

If you have no way to save up or get into (at least) 1070 territory, then try getting a second 290X. I don't think the 980ti is going to be a good purchase down the road. The 290X has 8GB and in XFire should prove itself a solid choice over the 980ti at that resolution. Just make sure you find a 290X/390X with 8GB.

Also, keep in mind a 290X/390X pair would suck a *lot* of power, so keep in mind your PSU has to be at least 750W with very good amperage in the 12V rails.

And I have no idea on Australia prices, sorry :(

Cheers!

I just purchased the acer predator 3440:1440 ultrawide with g-sync and have a single 980ti I can tell you for a fact that you need more than just one 980ti to power up that monster especially if you like playing the latest AAA titles. I myself am looking to upgrade to at least one GTX 1080 or 2x 1070's as there's just too many pixels to push. my 980ti is struggling quite a bit. Hope that helps ;) Cheers
