I have a 6 year old CPU. Any point in getting a new GPU?

Hello everyone, I am trying to decide if upgrading my video card will be with it, or should I just invest in a new build entirely. I currently have a.

AMD Phenom xt 1090t Not overclocked.

Geforce GTX 460 768 MB

8 gbs ram MSI-890 gx65 MOBO.

EVGA 500w bronze PSU. I primarily play WOW, but I would also like to play overwatch on high/epic settings ( I haven't bought the game yet )

So my question is, just how bad of a bottleneck will my phenom be on a newer card? I am mainly considering a GTX 960 or 970 ( I won't spend more than 175 on a 970 )

Thanks in advance.

This is a little late so I don't know if you're still in the market for a 970, but Newegg is running a deal on an ASUS blower style 970 for 200$ new, worth the extra 25$ IMO.

A GTX460 uses a little more power then a GTX970, he is good there.

Picking up a used 970 will be a pretty good upgrade for you. On some of the latest titles you will probably have a minor bottleneck on maximum frame rates, but you will be able to run at higher settings with no performance loss. Also be able to take advantage of some new rendering techniques and graphics technologies that have been added since Fermi.

Thank you for the reply. What is a fair price for a gtx 970 these days anyway? I was going to buy one for 175$ but it fell through. And just how good of a processor was when it was first released?

The 970 seems to be the most popular GPU on the planet according to Steam. It is good for 1920x1080 at high-ultra settings depending on the age of the game engine.

There are a few GTX970 out on the market new for $250, so $175 for a used one is not unreasonable. GTX980 sellers are desperate, so you might be able to get a pretty good deal if you push your budget a little. The RX480 came out, but the numbers show it being slower than a 970 in some cases but the 980 tops it.
