Question: Upgrade CPU

Hi guys,

I would like to upgrade my processor to 8 cores for gaming but my motherboard doesn't support the FX processor with AM3. what you suggest switch to intel or AMD FX AM3 socket with a new motherboard and a new processor ?

My specs :

CPU : AMD A6-5400K
Memory : Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB 1866MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM
Motherboard: Gigabyte F2A78M-HD2 version 3.0
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960
CPU Cooler : Corsair H60
Power supply : Evga 500 w

Budget around 200 dollars.

There is no amd processor that will give you better single thread performance.
Passmark single thread rating is around 1500. FX 6/8 is about the same 1500.
Intel I3-6100 $125 for example is 2102.
lga1151 motherboards start around $50
8gb of ddr4 ram will be about $30.

Intel have less cores but more powerful cores while AMD have more but less powerful cores. With this Intel is better as the individual cores are much more powerful and games themselves don't use many cores so I would recommend getting an Intel 1151 socket board and whatever CPU fits your needs but the best overall currently is the 6700K
