I've never built a computer before, so this experience is all new to me. I currently have a Gateway nv5942u laptop (i3 processor, Radeon 5650 1GB graphics) so I know I'm definitely due for an upgrade.

Anyway, to the point. I'm looking to build a computer. I'm piecing pieces together on newegg.ca (I'm in Canada), but I'm being dummied on that I need in terms of case, cooling, and psu. I want to have enough room for 1-2 graphics cards (crossfire/sli), 2 HDD, 1-2 SSD, and sufficient cooling where I have the option to use liquid cooling when I need/want it.

So far, here's where I'm at. I'm also open to some alternative suggestions for what I'm set on:

-i7 6700K processor
-Radeon RX 480 (8GB) -OR- Nvidia geforce gtx 1070 (8GB)
-ASUS Z170-A MOBO
-SanDisk Ultra II 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive
-CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000) Desktop Memory
-WD Black 1TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch
-ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM

Willing to spend about $1500-$1800(CAD) on everything. I just need to save up to that point first. I'll also be needing a keyboard/mouse/monitor, but that'll be a decision for later on. I don't yet plan on overclocking, but I want cooling/case/psu options that would be open to it.

Case preferences:
ATX mid-tower (don't think i have the room for a full tower)
Prefer black colour
Material - I'm not educated enough on this. I do want something on the durable side though.
USB 3.0 and audio connectors on front (having 2.0 with the 3.0 is fine too)
Side window isn't essential, but it would be nice
Every other aspect to me is jargon, so education would also be nice.
Support for at least 1 dvd burner with the option of adding a bluray burner in the future
Support for the option of crossfire/sli in the future with the cards I currently have listed
As per cooling, i'm clueless.

Solution
These PSU's would be nice:

These Noctuas would be excellent. If you go with the SPEC case, we'll need to double check to make sure these fit. I don't do water cooling, so someone else will have to help you with that.

For water cooling you're cpu you should take the Corsair h100i gtx
For air cooling you're cpu take the coolermaster hyper 212 evo
For the power supply you need a minimum of 400 watts so the Corsair CX650M or the CX750m (for both graphics cards that doesn't really matter)
For the case you should take the Corsair Carbide SPEC-03 with the preferred led's

Thanks for the response. That case was actually one I was considering along with about 8 others. I'm happy that someone at least endorses it.
For the power supply, would it not be a better idea to get something above a bronze rating, or is that peanuts?

To clarify cooling... would both of the suggestions be needed or just the one? Again, cooling is my toughest point. ram cooling, cpu cooling, gpu cooling, case cooling... way to confusing for a newbie like me.

You just need one cooler just depends on if you want to water cool you're cpu or air cool you're cpu and the power supply is already bronze rated.

For SLI/Crossfire you'll need 700W and I would move up the quality chain a bit. These would be good:

The Corsair 200R/SPEC02/03 are all nice budget cases. Higher in quality would be a Fractal R4 or R5.

After you pick a case, I'll give you some cooler suggestions.

So far I like the spec-3 AND the R5. I had another friend that says he's in love with his Corsair h100i gtx cpu cooler as well as merijnj's suggestion so I would prefer to have something that would be able to implement it.

For psu, let's actually keep it in a non-sli scenario for now. I don't imagine me needing to do sli for a long time, and if I do need to, I can always buy a new power supply unit to go with a 2nd or replacement graphics card.

Would you mind entertaining cooling scenarios for both cases, or would you rather I stick to one if it takes a while to do for you.
