Just ordered a new Samsung 950 Pro m.2 256GB and I'm having some issues setting this thing up. I merely plugged it in to my m.2 slot, screwed it down, popped in my Windows 7 disk then tried to install to it. It didn't show up in the list of drives to choose from for the OS. So I installed to my Samsung 850 Pro SSD and used Samsung Magician to clone the drive over to it. I suppose that works.. but am I missing something? Is there anything in the MSI bios I have to change before using a m.2 PCI-E SSD? Or was there a way to install Windows 7 straight to the 950 rather than cloning it? Sorry, very new to using this type of drive.

System Specs..
1050W Seasonic PSU
2x Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSDs (Raid 0)
2x Asus VQ248QE Monitors 144Hz
Intel 6800k 6 Core @ 3.4GHz
MSI Gaming Pro Carbon x99 Motherboard
Asus GTX 1080 Strix
Samsung 950 Pro m.2 SSD
GSkill 16GB (4x4GB) Trident Z

Solution
Could be that win7 lacks the drivers on the disk? It's getting very long in the tooth now. Win8.1 pro installed A OK for me from an external DVD to my M.2 fwiw.

I was reading around after posting this and saw that.. oops. With that question out of the way, is there any BIOS settings that should be changed to effectively use the drive?

The problem is Win 7 is too old and doesn't the drivers to recognize the m.2 950 pro. I actually just solved this problem a few days ago but I have a gigabyte gaming 6 motherboard so I don't know if it will work for you.

What you need:

Windows 7 iso

Download Yumi

USB stick 4Gb+

Download Windows USB Installation Tool http://

Use Yumi to create a Windows 7 install on your usb stick with your win 7 iso.
Use the Windows USB Istallation Tool on the usb stick
Make sure you put the USB stick into one of your USB 2.0 slots (usually black in color)
restart and it should install.
If it doesn't install make sure in bios you have boot from usb selected.
