MY specs:
Ram -Patriot Memory PC3-12800 4 GB DIMM 1600 MHz DDR3 Memory
CPU - I5-2500k
GPU - GTX 980 ti Hybrid
PSU - EVGA 850w Bronze
Mobo-Maximus IV Extreme
So I know when it comes to overclocking that its a bit of a lottery in regards to cpus but it seems like this ram is limiting my ability to OC. For example to get it to 1600mhz it needs 1.65v and without xmp it runs at 1300mhz. I was able to boot to the OS with a 5.2ghz clock but windows would bluescreen randomly, typically when an app was being loaded into the ram but not always. I dont get it stable again until i run the clock back down to 4.2ghz. I could do 4.5 but only if the ram is running at 1300mhz.
My question is as above, is my ram holding me back and should I replace it, and if I do manage to get a 5ghz table clock, should I sell the whole thing and build a new rig?
I poked around amazon and ebay and with everything the rig is worth about 1000 at used prices.
