Mobo: MSI Z170-A-Pro
CPU: i7-6700k
RAM: G Skill 2x8GB sticks
PSU: 750W

So i'm upgrading my old system. The Mobo, CPU, and RAM are all new to the build. The power supply works perfectly in my old system and worked just prior to installation in this one, so i know it works. My H60 Corsair works as well and is connected to the processor.

The problem is i'm getting nothing once it's hooked up. Even bare bones i get nothing. The CPU diagnostic light occasionally will flicker along with the slightest turn of the fans but that's only been a couple times. I've mounted, unmounted, and remounted the mobo double checking for extra/out of place standoffs that could short it out and everything is correct.

So am i missing something or am i just dealing with a DOA board? Give me something i can try so i don't have to RMA this thing!

Thank You!

Try testing the board outside the case, only CPU and CPU fan installed, both 24 and 8 pin power cables connected. No other components/ wires. Start the board by shortly touching with a screwdriver the 2 pins on the motherboard corresponding to the case power button. See if the CPU fan starts spinning.

@alexoiu: I've just done what you asked. The board will power on with a red diagnostic light next to CPU (this model has one for CPU and several other things). I'm assuming this means there's a short and the Mobo is ok?

there does appear to be damage to the pins. It definitely seemed like it required more force than it should to lock the CPU into place and maybe that damaged it. I don't know why though, as i had it in there perfectly.

attempted to bend back the pins. I must have been atleast partially successful as it now progresses past the CPU red light to the DRAM red light. putting in RAM into slot 2 does not fix that error.
