I have an old laptop from 2009, running Windows 7 Home Premium ServicePack1 64-bit, my DVD drive is a tsstcorp cddvdw ts-l633c. It hadn't been working for a couple of years now, I thought it was dead and I had no intention of replacing it. I decided to try it again today and clean the lens, I returned the lens-driver to the beginning of the track and it finally worked.

After playing with it for awhile, cleaning and lubricating the tracks, I can only make it work if I manually push the driver back to the beginning, if I don't it will just make some weird noises, hang my system and finally quit trying to read the disk (any disk). Also after I eject the tray the lens will always be about a thumb away from the beginning, I have no idea what the default position should be.

Can somebody please tell me what is going on? Cause I want to do a system recovery with a couple of DVDs that came with it and I am afraid of messing it up.
