fresh install, can i FORCE a separate system/boot partition (like Win7 does)?

this is a tricky one, so bear with me...

going to do a fresh install of WinXP. and then install Vista for dual boot. and then 7 for triple. 8 for quad. Linux for penta. done.

ok, i've done some experiments and i can replace any of those partitions with a clone from another drive (like system restore, but bulletproof). and i know that works on all partitions - EXCEPT the first one on the drive, which would be XP.

i assume that if i try to replace a killed-XP with a copy/image of it from last week, it might hose the bootloader stuff.

SO - can i set up a totally first tiny 500meg partition to act as the boot loader? it's what Win7 does by default anyways. or... do i install Win7 first to get it, and THEN install XP and Vista after and hope that they use that same partition?

i'm going to use EasyBCD for managing this multi-boot scheme, of course. and this is an offline-only machine, like a test bench.

i've done it all sorts of ways. works even backwards. question is - how can i force a system/boot partition and would XP even use it. reason being is that i can copy all partitions to another drive and when one gets hosed, i can copy it back. i've tried it on the 2nd and 3rd partitions, but not the first - which is where i believe the BCD / bootloader / whatever sits.
