Hello,

I recently bought a new PSU(Seasonic X-Series 850W), since a lot of people suggested that I upgrade my old one(Corsair VS650). PSU is probably from Japan since it has japanese text on it. It had a link to owltech.co.jp.

This was the first time I was replacing a PSU by the way. So I then went ahead and searched on how to install a modular PSU and installed it myself.

Turned it on and it worked, played a game for a few hours without any problem. Hours later I needed to sleep hence I turned it off.

Woke up and decided to use my computer again. I was able to use it but around an hour later it shuts down. This is where the on and off cycle starts.

While it's turning on and off, all of the fans/components turns on and off too. There are no beeps. There are times that it stops and only the led light in the front is on, components inside doesn't have any light, like it's on stand by.

Is there a chance that I might have plugged in the cables incorrectly? Personally I don't think so since it worked earlier. Or did I plug it in the wrong socket? I know that japanese equipment mostly requires 110v, in our country(Philippines) we always use 220v. Should I have plugged it in 110v?

Edit:
-The PSU has a Hybrid and Normal mode in it. It was on Normal Mode, tried Hybrid, didn't work either.
-There are no beeps.

Solution

It most likely seems to be a defective PSU. However do check that all cables are firmly in their slots, and have not come loose. A tight cable not plugged in correctly could come loose. Check the event log in Windows. If there are any Critical warnings related to Kernal-Power, then RMA the PSU and get a new one.

Hello. I have tried the paper clip test for both my PSUs.

Corsair VS650 - Fans spins normally.

Seasonic X 850 - Fan spins for 3 seconds then shuts down. This is Normal mode by the way.

Does that mean that the PSU is faulty?

Yes, it seems that the PSU was defective. Replaced it and now it's fine. Thank you!
