Hey guys,

My friend has a new monitor, the Acer PG279Q. It should be able to run at 165hz G-sync, but he is having trouble activating G-sync.

In Nvidia control panel, under "View HDCP status" he is told it's G-sync capable. When he goes to "Set up G-sync" he can activate it, but...

When he goes to "Manage 3D Settings" G-Sync is missing as an option from Vertical Sync.

What is going on? I have a feeling some other settings or software is off somewhere.

Hope you can help me out.

Solution
I have gsync and i just checked in NCP and just realised he maybe be looking at the wrong spot since Vsync was mentioned.

This is where Gsync option is:

Update:
1. He does have the latest NVidia driver? (must be 353.06 or later to have GSYNC added to the VSYNC list)

2. If he sets something under the GLOBAL settings (all games/apps) then it's possible something may be MISSING from the individual games list.

I don't have GSYNC so I can't test. BUT, if that's the problem you can try to:

3. "restore defaults" (in NCP-> manage 3D settings, section).

Other:
Some games like Fallout 4 need to run at a constant 60FPS to work properly. I don't know if you can force a per-game cap or not. You should ask someone about that, then tweak settings so you rarely drop below 60FPS. I'd say just use VSYNC but I don't know how you can get 60Hz/60FPS easily for one game.

He has version 368.39.
It's in global he is trying to set it to G-sync.
He is running with DisplayPort 1.2.
At least now it says "G-sync mode" when he launches the Asus display software (updated monitor software), but G-sync is still missing under Vertical Sync.

Just to be sure. Is it even supposed to be there any more? I'm watching a year old youtube video to try to figure it out. The guy in the video has G-sync on in global settings under the "Vertical sync" setting.

Here's the link to the guy showing how he activates it on a PG278q(not 279 like my mates):

(annotations disabled screwed me there.. there's a newer version.. I'll check that out, but you're very welcome to pitch in with your ideas to what it could be)

He managed to get G-sync to work. Thanks a lot.

Now that I have your attention. Would you be willing to help me with getting his monitor to stay in 165hz? It downclocks to 144hz constantly. Pretty sure it has something to do with Windows, but not what.

He managed to make it stay on 165hz.

Resolution > advanced settings > monitor > Check it's set there to 165Hz. Navigation to monitor settings differ from os to os so try look for that setting.

In NVCP preferred refresh rate - try setting that to Highest available.

If he has any other 3rd party tweak software, check there as well nothing is limiting.
