Questions about new ISP!?!

1.) Is there even a guarantee that ill see those speeds even during peak hours ?

NOPE, almost no isp will guarantee you see that speed. make sure to check your speed though sites like speedtest.net or such though as just because you can download at 25mbps doesnt mean the sending computernetwork will upload at 25mbps

2.) I dont want their bullcrap leased modem absolute garbage. is this modem/router combo adequate?

apparently its is important that you get a recommended list not the minimum list.


3.) They claim if you dont you use their leased equipment they wont help set it up..wtf? lol. Is this true? Can I give the guy a $20 to hook it up ?

They will only run the wire. You will have to call and provide the Serial/Mac number to them so they can enable it to run on there network (which is all there service tech really does anyways they just got a fast track number).

You will have to setup the wireless network settings yourself if you don't like the defaults but most the time once you get them to register the modem it will work. usually setting up is just plug into wall and screw the cable into the modem and call them to enable it to run on there network.

4.) What tips tricks do I need to know about this game before I start making calls....

BE patient. Yes calls can take awhile. When they first enable a modem it can take 20+min to do setup (at least Comcast did) as it can several auto restarts of the modem to fully setup to Timewarrner or any isp network.

5.) What determines a low ping ? The tiered service package you pick or location?

ping is determined by everything from your computer to the server, so your network, your modem, isp routers cabling ect, the internet backbone, the servers isp or connection to backbone, the servers routers.....sometime later the actual server your connected to.(amazing what happens in 30ms)

so basically the more devices it has to go though the higher the ping. usually more device the farther every thing is apart.

yes a faster speed package can have a slightly lower ping but not as much as what you think. a twice as fast package will not nessarly have half the ping. when I went form 8mbs to 80mbs my ping times in LOL when from 110ms down to 85ms. faster but not much. but when they moved there servers to the east coast my ping went down to 25ms.)
