HI, as you wonderful people have helped me before though i would ask again,
as a newbie to building systems (sorry i'm a hobbyist) my dream build would involve a rampage 4 extreme, with all the trimmings, my question is (having never use intel before) which is best for gaming .

i have done a small amount of research and the i5 was rated better than the i7. well to the new guy doesn't really make sense, i currently have a GA-970 with an pile driver 8 core holding 16gb ram
could any one please explain which is better ..for gaming
thank you in advance..

Solution
First, there's many different i5 and i7 processors so in games requiring one or two cores an higher frequency i5 may be faster than lower frequency i7. Beside that, a higher rating for an i5 may be performance to money ratio, not necessarily pure performance. In most cases and for now, an i5 makes more sense than i7, at least for primarily gaming.
And yes, either i5 or i7 would be much better than your old AMD setup.

its a project that i have been wondering about for some time, i have seen so many awesome builds and thought i would have a go and all the best one seem to host the rampage 4, my budget is low so it will be a buy component this month and the save unfortunately.....have to say im not going to overclock and before you all shout WHAT!!!! i'm still learning and its a lot of money to get wrong ..

i don't have the cash flow to get a few cheapys in to practice sorry ... :)

but if i can get the rig to look half as good as some of you have made think ill be happy ..

couldn't agree more which is why i'm asking the questions and getting the 'mechanics' for want of better word sorted so when i come to the purchases im getting the right tool for the job, and not just 'skirt chasing'
