Started building my first pc last night, put all together, and it booted fine into bios straight away, I only had a blank m.2 ssd connected and have a USB for installing windows 10 when it comes to it, but because it was late, I switched it off and went to bed.

Got up this morning and tried turning it on to install windows, have fun on my brand new computer etc... after turning on the power supply (not yet having pressed the power button) the motherboard's (Asus z170i pro gaming mini itx) standby power light is on, BUT after pressing the power button nothing happens, no fans no extra lights, nothing!

I have checked the power supply with the paperclip method, that works. I have tried remounting everything, testing both individual ram sticks in each slot, jumping the power switch headers, clearing RTC ram (although couldn't find the on board battery to clear the CMOS, and not sure if that would be a solution to that problem too, so advice on that too would be appreciated)

Cannot think what the problem could possibly be, seeing as it booted fine last night and I am desperate to get this working asap, please help me :( thanks for reading.

Computer specs:
i5 6600k
AMD rx 480 8gb
Noctua NH-L12 cpu cooler
ASUS PRO GAMING Z170I mini itx
8gb (2×4gb) hyper x fury ram
Evga supernova 80+ gold 550W power supply
Samsung 850 evo m.2 250gb ssd
Thermaltake core v1 mini itx case
