Hello,
I was wondering if I could get some help with my pc build. As the title suggests, I am completely new to this and was wondering if the build I have planned out would work.

Processor: Intel Boxed Core i5 189.99
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170XP-SLI 119.99
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 69.99
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 294.99
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 154.85
Power supply: EVGA G2 650 89.99
Case: Corsair Carbide Series Spec 2
Keyboard: Strike Force 7 299.99(I know it's pricey but I fell in love with it!)
Mouse: Logitech G502 79.95

As for the operating system, I am thinking Windows 8, but am not sure if I need 32 or 64 bit.

I am not sure what to get for the optic drive, but I don't think it's really too important.

As for the storage, I am thinking 2 tb, but that would be a king's ransom if it were an ssd. I have heard of combinations between ssd and hard drives, suggestions?

I was just wondering if everything is compatible, and if there is a way to knock down the total price a few hundred. If it could go down to about $1500, that would be perfect.

Thanks for your help!

Yeah, the keyboard is gr8. The ssd is also perfect.

You could change the psu to 550w and buy an xfx ts 550w for 60usd on amazon (only if you want to use gtx 970, but if you will upgrade your gpu later on, ofcourse you dont want a low power supply)...

take 64 bit windows 8 :p .

And you might want to change the motherboard if you want to save money (20$-50$).
However, if you dont change the keyboard and mouse, you can't save any money. :D

If you do not need the monitor, you could get a better motherboard and the keyboard too. And the one I have given is also good, but not better than strike force 7, although you can buy it if you can get some more money...

Thanks for the fast responses! Is the CPU cooler necessary? Also, if I want to get the memory up to 2 tb should I increase the ssd, hard drive, or both?
*And sorry for not making it clear earlier, but I will be using my Samsung smart tv as a monitor, occasionally switching between a controller (probably Dualshock 4) and the keyboard.

get a cheaper SSD. the 850 EVO is too expensive to be good ATM
also the H7 is better than the 212 EVO, quieter, cooler, better looking
try the S340. great case
the GTX 970 is outdated man. live in the present. you want to wait until prices settle and grab the CHEAPEST 1070 for 380 bucks or so. do yourself a favor.
and as of OS, do Windows 10 or Windows 7. 8.1 I redundant. windows 7 for work, windows 10 is good for DX12

The above build is good, but Samsung 850 evo is the best ssd, and moreover, who's looking at the cpu cooler, and no one wants it to be good looking? I would suggest taking a gtx 1060, 1070 is too expensive for that build, as 1060 is going to be 250$ - 300$... You can just get a windows 10 right away.

How about this one,Ryan and Tony, although the case isn't that good, 2TB HDD, 240GB SSD, 16GB RAM, GTX 1070 and i5-6600K is good for anything... You could also save some money (50$), and then after some buy VR headsets and controllers to get a VR build.

Well the case has a side panel for a friggin reason. Also 212 EVO is a very mediocre. Some 92mm like raijintek cooler will beat it.
H7 is the best 30$ cooler. 20$ is the raijintek aidos
Also I try to make my stuff aesthetically pleasing too. The case is black and is themed silver and black and some white.
Also the GTX 1070 price should be left to the OP to decide, not you!
I said go grab the cheapest.
Then the RX 480 is not the gtx 1070 best next choice, but I mean it's only a few tens over budget and is very rewarding if you get it.
As of the SSD, the 850 EVO is 90$ atm and that's just pricey. Yes it may be slightly better quality, but almost all SSDs go from the same Hynix, Samsung, Toshiba...
The only difference is a small unnoticeable speed difference. If he uses that as a boot drive then it won't really matter. Only if he uses for rendering does it matter at all. The ADATA is one of the best budget ones that perform good. Unlike the V300

Those are crappy sleeve bearing fans. He's looking at a disaster of a noisy/vibrating case if he uses those.

Ryan_78

Honorable
Well in that post, you mere merely got a worse case, took out a mouse, added tons of case fans, and took some price off the 1070. The 1070 minimum retails 380$
The f12 and the cougar fans are better. And the S340 is has more functional

Ok, m8. Did you see the above build?
It is good and if you think the mobo ain't great, then you could take the MSI one that you mentioned before... And also you could take H7 as cpu cooler (if its the best in 30$, which i hope it is). :D

You could also change the PSU to the 550 G2 for a cheaper price.

Ugh, the mouse is there, and i put up those fans because they are very less in price! Well, then we can't get it less than 1500$ if gtx 1070 is 380$, he could wait and take a gtx 1060!

Wont that be very less? for 1070?
Yea, but if he's going to take gtx 970, i'd recommend a 550, but with all these new gpus' coming, 970 will be old, i guess.. But if overclocked, 970 can perform like a gtx 980, so he could take it too...

Won't what be very less?
