hi i bought a new msi H97 motherboard and want to switch out motherboards but can i do it without reinstalling windows on windows 8.1?

Solution
Make backups of your data files and just plug the Drive in and boot, more often than not it will set itself up to the new mobo for you, then load the latest mobo drivers from their website, run a registry cleaner (Wise has a good free version) and if needed reactivate Win

Windows 8.1 is pretty good with switch the OS drive to completely new system, I've done it a few times my self, the only issues I still run into are usually conflicts like AMD video card drivers with Nvidia, just uninstall them. You will have to play around with the activation.
