Hi All,

So I have the RX 480 and I was just wondering, what CPU's would go well with this current GPU. Any that would enhance my gaming experience with the RX 480 or just generally any good ones.

My current one is: AMD FX-6300 Six-Core Processor.

Probably my budget is roughly £120 I'd say.

Thanks!

P.S. I'm also thinking about selling my old GPU, Sapphire 7790, how much do you think I could get for it?

Thanks!

You have to change the board to change the cpu mate.
Going to the latest socket also means new ram.

You can just do that for £200 with an i3 6100 but that IMO is just a slight upgrade.

Buy a £30 cooler , overclock the **** off your 6300, you have a great quality board there 4.2-4.5ghz (cpu quality dependant ) will give you a big performance boost.

Thanks! Are there any specific ones you'd recommend?

For £120 you're not really going to get anywhere.

An i3 6100, cheap mobo & 8gb DDR is going to set you back £200 or so.

Your 7790 you'll be lucky to get £40 for in all honesty so you have a shortfall there.

What's the rest of your system specs ??

A little overclocking on the 6300 is always a good option.
If your boards upto the job £20-30 on a decent aftermarket cooler can play dividends.

After having a final look I'm willing to go much more than £120 - probably around to £200 mark. Kinda expected to be spending a bit more when it comes to a CPU.

I don't really want to upgrade my mobo - just wanted the CPU really. One which would work better with the RX 480.

Specs are below:

CPU: AMD FX-6300 Vishera 32nm Technology
RAM: 8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 (9-9-9-24)
Mobo: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. M5A99X EVO R2.0 (Socket 942)
GPU: 4096MB ATI Radeon RX 480 Graphics (ATI)

Thanks for answering the 7790 thing, was just curious.

Thanks mate I appreciate it! Didn't really want to splash out on a new PC for a another year or so, so you've helped a lot.

I'll stick with just buying a £30 cooler for now and OC'ing it.
