Hello,

I have watched benchmarks to see if I'm getting the maximum performance from my GPU. I have also googled and it said that it should not bottleneck it. Some benchmarks are the same, some are way off; an example is the Batman Arkham Knight game.

I'm getting an average FPS of around 70-80, but when I try to dive down, FPS starts dropping down to 40s

I have watched a benchmark with the i7-6700k; FPS average is around 100 even when flying down. I commented on some videos and they mentioned that a GTX 1080 shouldn't be dropping down below 60fps on a 1080p.

So what I did is download the MSI Afterburner and check the performance. I can see 4 CPUs, when I dive down in Batman AK, they all start spiking up to 100%, temperature is normal; around 50-60 degrees. GPU is around 50-60+%, temperature is around 70 degrees.

Really need to be enlightened since it gets me worried. Heck even an 1440p benchmark is way above mine and I'm only using 1080p.

I'm planning to upgrade to i7-6700k if it's indeed bottlenecking it, would it be worth it?

Thank you in advance for all the replies. If you need some information or need me to do something just go ahead and say so. Will do my best.

Probably so, an i5 6500 is a great CPU, I use it with my gtx 1060 6gb, the problem is, the GTX 1080 is so powerful, you need a really good CPU to follow it, although the i5 6500 is great, the I7 6700k might just be the perfect answer, and maybe even a 7th gen I7 7700k.
Arkham Knight isn't all that well optimized and still can have some issues. My i5 6600k running at stock speeds did not encounter a CPU bottleneck with a GTX 970, and I was able to maintain a solid 60FPS at 1080p with everything at maximum except the Nvidia Advanced Smoke and Fog physics, which would cause my framerate to tank in certain areas like the Stagg Airship.

You shouldn't be seeing framerate drops, and you should't be seeing a CPU bottleneck. It might be a graphics driver issue, or it may be a streaming issue with the game, the game is very bad at streaming new data in while travelling the world, and for that reason it's recommended to run the game off an SSD to try to brute force through that, as that can cause performance problems, though that was primarily when driving the Batmobile.

All gameworks settings are on from my end by the way since the benchmarks I have watched are the same.

Now you mentioned that I shouldn't be seeing fps drops, it really gets me worried :( Graphics driver is downloaded from the NVIDIA website.

About SSDs, tried researching if it will indeed boost the performance. Based on the answers here: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/290143-32-will-improve-game-performance they mentioned it shouldn't affect it that much.

I will try and record a gameplay later and upload it here. It might give you guys an idea.

By the way, I'm using a 120g SSD for my OS(Windows 7 64bit) and my games are installed in a 1TB Seagate HDD.

Hi Jeffrey, thank you for the reply. Do you have an idea what might be wrong? My processes in Task Manager aren't that big too.

Have you oc your cpu? you can oc a locked cpu with the Z170's X or A's, and with the same mobo you can try to oc your RAM...you got the gaming 3 though and this 1 is the gaming 5 so idk, take my advise with a grain a salt...

Yup, but not successfull, it won't boot. I already watched that video before. I tried copying the OC settings, I think I was able to figure it out but it won't boot. It will restart and load the optimized boot settings. This was before I upgraded my PSU though, before my PSU was a Corsair VS650, now it's the one listed above. Does OCing require a good PSU?

I'll try it later and let you know.

Overclocking a locked CPU requires a special BIOS that probably won't be on Gigabyte's official site, as Intel seriously frowns upon offering that option. Overclocking does increase power consumption, so having a better PSU is a good thing, you have a good PSU so that's not a concern.

Yeah, I heard when oc'ing you want a good psu, maybe a good evga supernova 750 +80 gold? 850 might be overkill idk. I got the 650 hope i can still do i decent oc lol...

I have looked for a way on how to do it. I found this website:
http://overclocking.guide/gigabyte-z170-non-k-overclocking-guide/

Not familiar with updating the bios yet by using "Q-Flash"

Was successful in overclocking, oced it up to 4.3 from 3.2, here are the difference and they are very huge:

Still spiking down to 40s though. What could be the problem :\

I have the same cpu with a gtx 1060. cpu is definitely bottlenecking or something.. it shouldnt ideally coz its 6500! but it seems to be bottlenecking..

my post here --- http://www.tomshardware.com/s/normal+6500+bottlenecking+gtx+970+multiplayer+games+battlefield/

let me know what you did to fix the issue.

Just updating this thread.

I upgraded my CPU to 6700k and it looks like that did the trick. It increased my performance by a lot. Looks like it was indeed bottlenecking with the 6500.
