On the ASRock Z170M Extreme4 Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard there is a m.2 slot which i was hoping to have windows on and a couple games. On pc part piker it says that "The motherboard M.2 slot #0 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. When the M.2 slot is populated, two SATA 6Gb/s ports are disabled." does this mean as i would always be running windows on the ssd in the m.2 slot that i would not be able to use my other hdd at all?
Any help would be appreciated

Solution
Only 2 out of the 6 SATA ports are disabled, if using a SATA type M.2 device:
" The Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_1) supports M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x4 (32 Gb/s). Please be noted t hat if M2 _1 is occupied by a SATA-type M.2 device, SATA3_0 and SATA3_1 will be disabled."

So do i just use 2 of the other 4 slots and be fine since i only have 2 hard drives to put in anyway and if so how do i tell which sata ports are being disabled out of the 6, will it label them on the mobo?

Ii got a asrock 990fx extreme 6 and heya what I'm running a samsung 950 pro and every sata port still works it just shares bandwith is all when your using other drives
So you should still be able to use em all unless was a previous gen thing

Mind that the Samsung 950 PRO is a PCIe x4 SSD part, not a mSATA.

i know I still have it installed in a m.2 slot they don't make a full size hard drive of the 950s.
and I got it installed in a m.2 gen2 x2 slot on a asrock 990 fx extreme 6 board.
tewll me something I don't know.
it uses pci bus if installed in a pci expres adapter .
but shouldn't disable his 2 sata ports unless its a intel chipset thing amd 990 fx chipset I still get aces to every sata port I got .
4 other hdds that I got plugged into mine and and a lg mdisc bd buner al on sata and they al stil work .

*Supports NVMe SSD as boot disks
PCIE4 is from chipset PCIE x4 lane

taken right from your boards specs documentation .
so don't even use sata uless its turned to sata in bios for the m.2 slot
if it is turn it to pci expres in bios if your running a pcie m.2 drive .
and also according to board specs on asrock web site would share or use sata 3.
ya should be fine uless its a intel chipset restriction I don't know about

.2 drive in the m.2 gen 2 x2 slot on my amd board the asrock 990 fx extreme 6 .says uses sata 3 for my m.2 slot even though I'm running a a pcie express m.2 gen 2 x2 slot.
and geuss what stil using every single sata port on my board without a problem

hell even running 2 650 ti boosts in sli in dual x16 mode
but amd boards have had more pci express lanes then intel
where his board only supports dual or 3 way times 8 mode and x 4 for the forth

mine onlt does 3 way for cross fire then the thir\d slot would be times 4 but still x16 for the other 2 slots

on top of that hes got a gen 3 x4 m.2 slot and they added support for nvme m.s sssd so why would he use anything besides a 950 pro or one of the new ocz nvme drive or the new oem Samsung nvme m.2 drives would be a waste to use anything else.

hes also got a asrock board like me cept his is intel so he shouldn't have a problem unless the intel chipsets restrict it plain and simple.
