Gtx 1060 Much better than the Rx 480? for 3440 x 1440p

Hey everyone so I know enough information to get me in trouble when it comes to GPU's....

The specs are supposedly leaked for Nvidia's the Gtx 1060 and they are saying its going to be faster than AMD's Rx 480..... Now the 480 is a fine card but for the resolution I need which is 3440 x 1440p is does a alright job but not enough to merit buying the card for me

Now I can't really understand all the specs that are thrown out there but would the 1060 be a better card for 1440p gaming?

Solution
Because the "leaked" 1060 slide shows something like 1.15x more performance, it is not huge. It would be a 4.5 fps gain from 30 on a 480. Both would be pretty bad either way.

I have no doubt it will be a good mid level card, but you are not running a mid level resolution.

Your resolution is pretty high so you should look into faster cards either way.
It's just speculation at this point. One thing is for sure, Nvidia has never been very good in the budget range. Take the 960 for example. Very poor memory bandwidth and only ok performance compared to the R9 380x. On top of that it was more expensive as well.

If the 1060 does end up being faster than the RX 480 it'll only be by a small margin and it'll be priced higher.

a 1070 or two 970s is a 1440p setup or technically two 4gb 380s will work fine but its not ideal
now two rx 480s will work at 1440p a single will not if you want max settings at 1440p at a good fps a 1060 is going to be around a 480 in proformance and to compete SHOULD be a bit faster or a bit slower but a little cheaper as well or use much less power or have better cooling or SOMETHING that makes it better compared to the 480.
but at 1440p assuming your doing 60hz a 1070 is the best or a 970 sli but if its one of the newest 165hz 1440p monitors you need 3 1080s :) (lol moment) so thats another thing we need to think about

The problem with calling monitors by height is it does not count the width.

2560 x 1440(3.68ish megapixels) is what most people think of as 1440p

3440 x 1440(4.95ish megapixels) is 1267200 more pixels to drive. It does add to the load. It is still easier than 4k :)

Cant give a proper response just here @ work but yea I have a dell 34" monitor @ 60hertz that I have heard can be overclocked to 80? Have not looked into this too much but yea... just FYI thanks for all the responses havent seen them all just yet

Thanks for all the feedback guys finally got the chance to see it all! I am thinking the 1070 might be the best option for me after all :p I am just not to crazy about the "FOUNDERS EDITION" which is the only one I can get my hands on without shelling out the total right out of pocket....

Looking at some reviews on the FE though because I am curious on how that blower style card keeps up with heat and sound...

It's a reference card with a fancy name and higher price. The problem with reference cards is they are always hotter expect in the rare scenario in which your case has very low airflow. They are always louder too, which makes sense given there is only one fan and forcing air through a tight space generates noise.

/\ Yeah pretty much this. /\

Some early blower style coolers on lower powered cards would actually be quiet(arctic cooling used to sell such coolers). The biggest blower(reference/FE) advantage was that all the heat left the case. Now if they could use a blower cooler from a hotter card on these lower powered cards, they would in fact be quieter(over engineering).

Before the "Founder Editions", Reference cards would generally be the least expensive option.

If your case has lower air flow then such a card is a good option for you.
