I'm building a video editing system around an ASUS X99-A, but the video cards ASUS say are 'supported' seems a little ridiculous to me. They list 6 cards that are 970's or higher, and everything other than the 970's are way over priced and outdated tech (the highest is a 980ti).
I've never build a system with anything other than supported/compatible components before, so I'm a little lost. What kind of risks do I run if i use something like an ASUS 1070 FE, or a 1070/1080 from another manufacture.
