So basically i wanted an upgrade to my pc so i've bought a gtx 970 and a new 500w power supply being told this should be enough power. After installing both the PSU and GPU into my pc i tried to turn it on, there was a moment of hope as the power button lit up for about a second and then went off, since then it's not worked at all. I've already put it down to the PSU as it wont work in another PC i tried it in but i wanted to know if anyone else has a possible solution to my issue. My main reason for asking is i don't want buy another psu and kill that one or to kill my GPU as for my that cost quite a bit.

Forgot to mention that i've put my old PSU into the PC again and it still works, so not completely killed it.

Thanks Man, tried this and as i suspected the Power Supply is dead :(

My only question now is is there any risk of harming my pc when i replace the power supply?
Do you think i was just sent a faulty power supply or could the new GPU have caused the PSU to die?

I really don't want to kill another PSU :/
