Apparently my onboard Realtek 8111 network card died. It was still up last night, This morning I checked on "Device Manager" and "Network Adapter" but it didn't show up. I suspected that the network cable had been hit by lightning because it is connect with my neighbor's modem, but after checking the cable , there was no sign of damage, but there are some spot that were chewed by rats, but all the wire inside are still intact. I inspect my motherboard once again and smelled the LAN port ,but it doesn't have any "magic smoke" smell. I also went to the BIOS and go to AI NET 2 to turn on Realtek LAN Cable Check , but nothing showed up when booting, it just go to Windows like it would do normally. Finally, I touched the network chip and felt really "hot" , it's really hot , If I were put it there any longer I think my finger would be burned. Anyways , I'm thinking of buying a network card or bring the motherboard to a local computer shop to have them replace the chip (but they don't always have this type of chip) . For the separate network card option, do you think that it will spawn some problem if the faulty onboard network keep running hot like that, also should I go for 100Mbit network card for cheap or get the Gigabit one?

I tried to disable it in the BIOS but... It didn't work. The chip is still hot
