I have a Foxconn G31MXP-K motherboard and I'm planning to buy a new graphics card. I'm thinking of any brand that has 2gb 256bit DDR5 graphics card. What i want to know is the things i should keep in mind of buying a new graphics card. Does my motherboard supports 256bit ddr5? What does 256bit, 128bit, 64bit mean in graphics card?

Motherboard: Foxconn G31MXP-K

Processor: Core2Duo E8400
Memory: 4gb ddr2
Current graphics card: gt240 512mb 128bit GDDR3

Thanks!

Thanks for your answer! So you mean that I can put any graphics card in my motherboard? Just an example the new RX 480?
Nope you can't install any type of graphics card! Like I said, look out for your CPU. Your current CPU is too old to install a new graphics card like 'RX 480'. You need to upgrade your CPU to install latest graphics cards.

Hello! You can opt for 'HD 7770' graphics card which suits your motherboard. Before you buy any card, just look for the memory type that is GDDR5 which is fast in performance and be careful that your CPU won't bottleneck your graphics card. And the the term 'bits' in graphics cards refers to the bandwidth between the core and the memory. The higher the bits, the faster the contact between the core and the memory. Also, the bits are based on the amount of memory that is 2GB, 4GB. For example, say a graphics card has 6GB of memory, then '384bit' makes the perfect bandwidth for that memory. And no, the motherboard never minds the amount of 'bits' of the graphics card. It just is based on the card itself.
