I decided to overclock my CPU. Never really did a serious 'attempt' at it so this would be my first one. Did have quite some experience with GPU overclocking though.

Before starting anything I looked at some basic guides, some tutorials and some basic tips regarding overclocking a CPU. Just to know the basics and to know the limits of my CPU. It seemed that my CPU (I5-6600K @ 3.3Ghz) should obtain 4.6GHz with ease or atleast somewhat in that direction. Before doing anything else I wanted to make sure this was indeed the case and therefor changed the core ratio to 'Sync All Cores' and put the Core Ratio Limit to 46

Everything seemed normal. I saved and restarted however after launching CPU-Z and LinX it appeared that the Core speed was still locked at 3.3GHz. To make sure it wasn't the program's fault I ran different type of monitoring software's but they all showed the same results. To also make sure it wasn't the bios's fault I slightly changed the core voltage and RAM frequency to see if those did apply and they did. I changed those back to default and started bringing the Ratio down to see if that would change anything but without any success. After having looked around for nearly a day I still haven't figured out the problem and the only thing I can think of now is specifically describing the problem here and hope for the best.

Specs:

Motherboard: Asus Z170 Pro Gaming (BIOS 0802)

CPU: I5-6600K @ 3.3GHz

(CPU Cooling: Sycthe Mugen 4)

GPU: Nvidia GTX 780

Power Supply: Corsair CX750M

Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury HX426C15FBK2/16

Thanks in advance.

yeah im having the same problem with a Asus Sabertooth Z170 S (0802 version) it could be on there side but you could edit the BCLK to 150 and edit the ratio from there thats what i did and messaged Asus and to see if they respond got mine to 4.65GHz from doing the BCLK thing but would love to go higher without editing BCLK

EDIT: im going to see if its a problem with there recent bios updates and going to downgrade to an older bios

I tried doing that on mine and had no success sadly even trying to flash bios and reinstalling it by hand (not using the Ezflash)

Ill start touching the BCLK when its desperately needed but for now ill refrain from it

I thought the same about the BIOS and used different versions, older and newer ones. This however didn't fix the problem so most likely it's nothing bios based.

Cleared CMOS but unfortunately this did not fix the problem.
