Can't figure out how to get my computer to use my new graphics card, instead of onboard graphics.

I just built a new gaming PC
specs:
Asus z170 Pro Gaming Motherboard
MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4G
2x G.SKILL Ripjaws 8gb
Intel i7 6700K 4GHz
Here's my problem:
My motherboard has onboard graphics, (Intel 530 or something) when I go to manage under This Pc on my desktop, the Intel graphics are the only one that show up under the drop down for adapters. (Mind you that my monitor is plugged into my motherboard, and not my graphics card, because when I plug it into my GPU, the monitor says no DVI found.)
I've tried going into the Asus UEFI Bios but I can't figure out how to enable the express slot for my graphics card. The GPU is definitely plugged in right, the lights glow, I just don't know how to get it up and running.

Solution
Try installing the NVidia driver. The fact that the 1st PCIe slot does not work might indicate a problem in the CPU socket (bent pins), or a faulty PCIe slot.

Switched GPU to PCIE_2, plugged monitor into graphics card, powered everything on, the GPU fans now spin during start up. I go into Manage under This PC, now it doesn't even say the Intel graphics, nor does it say my current graphics card (MSI) it says "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" do I need to go into the bios and change something? Loading up the MSI Gaming App does not work either. Prompts me with the message of "The platform does not support this application"

Tried plugging GPU back into slot 1 and it worked?? Maybe something was a little bit loose. Installed driver and we are good now. Thanks!
