Hi,
Today i bought my Q9650 from another user. In mint condition. Fully working by now, have been using it for like 5/6 without any problems. But i had to replace the stock cooler because i was worried. I changed it and from all core being 80 degrees and above, Now they are slightly better of being :
Core 0: 75 to 80 degrees
Core 1: ranging from 65 to 70 degrees
Core 2: 65 to 70 degrees
Core 3: 60-65 degrees

= I reapplied the thermal paste once again.
However. I broke one of the intel stupid pins but it is still secured to the mo/bo.

Should i be worried?
If it got to hot in 5 hours wouldnt it turn off by itself?

Regards,
Luke

If you broke one of the intel pins you need a new/different cooler. The pins now are not applying the force needed to the cooler to make proper contact with the cpu. There is a workaround for that but I would suggest using a different cooler, probably an aftermarket one. Even if the temps are fine now at some point it should 'give up'. Better safe than sorry.

There are some things that you could do. I haven't tried them myself. Using a screw and insulating pads or zip ties. Stuff like that. But as I said I haven't done any of those. Research it and you might find something.

As for the cpu 85 is high but not deadly, Intel cpu have fail safes for the thermal problems. I wouldn't use it as is though. Under load it would probably shut down completely. Also check forums in your area about used stuff. People sometimes throws them away for a couple of bucks.
