I just built a computer using an m5a78lm/usb3, an amd fx-6300 processor, an 8gb stick of ram and it is being powered by a 400w psu. Everything boots up, I get no post beeps and when I have my monitor plugged into the vga port on the motherboard all I get is "no signal, go to power save". I've done the normal take it apart and put it back together, tried the ram in different slots, even did a CMOS reset. I'm not sure what the problem could be so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Solution
Your motherboard is the problem then. Only the mo/bo has usb ports. So if you get nothing, Your motherboard is faulty. But, one less try, try and reconnect the power connectors from the start and see what happens

If you have onboard graphics, that may be the problem. (It may be that in bios its not activated since its brand new) and You always connect the vga to the graphic card, or else the mobo will have problems to display. Try adding a pcie cheap graphic card to test it out, if it works than you will need a pcie card. You dont need to buy an expensive one, if its for normal use go for the gt 610 for just 30 dollars.

OK so I tried a Nvidia Ge Force 210 graphics card and still no display. The monitor definitely works because I tried it on another computer and had no problems. Now, do I have to use memory cards that are listed in the qvl or does it not matter?

Gotcha, I tried a 4 gb ram stick in all slots and still nothing. Motherboard issue I'm guessing, but could it possibly be a processor issue?

I'm not doubting what you said, but is there a possibility it's a problem with the processor?
