I got an old hp DC 7600 with a pentium D that gets quite warm, sadly this board supports PD max, when it goes above 55 celsius (full load) the fan speeds up and it annoys me, as i want to use it as quiet media center, fan speed is already set to most quiet in the bios and there are no options to disable regulated fan speed.

Which wire do i need to cut on both of my fans to disable the regulated fan speed? I know it will get a little warmer but a pentium D is still safe to run at 55-65, and the HP coolers still do a good job at stock speed.

Solution
You have a PWM 4 pin fan.
Older motherboards may not have sophisticated fan control logic in the bios.
Possibly speedfan would be worth a try.

Or, you can reduce the speed by using a rheostat fan controller like a zalman fanmate2.

If you want more quiet, look into a better cooler with a slower turning 120mm fan.
