Looking to upgrade my system

I am currently looking to upgrade my gaming rig, preferably for 1440p gameplay. I am looking at a GTX 1070 as my main option for the graphics card. I typically play MMO's and Overwatch. I don't typically play AAA games like GTA or The Witcher. I currently have an i5-4570. Would I be better off upgrading my processor and getting a GTX 1070 or getting a GTX 1080 now and sticking with the 4570 until I can upgrade my processor next summer? Would a 1070 and an i5-6500 be sufficient for games like Guild Wars 2, Riders of Icarus, and Black Desert at 1440p or would I be better off with the 1080 and i5-4570?

The 4570 is still a capable CPU. I'd keep that, and invest in the best GPU you can afford.

The 4570 + 1070 should be sufficient for those games, but of course, the more power you have available, the better you should be.

I don't see the i5-6500 as a worthwhile upgrade over the 4570. i5-6600K, maybe (higher boost clock speed, and OCing capability), but the 6500, not for the cost.
