Is this a good PSU to use for a Dell Inspiron 3847 (i5, 8GB) with a GTX 960?

I have an ASUS GTX 960 on it's way and I'm most likely getting this as the PSU http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1161878-REG/sea_sonic_electronics_g_550_ssr_550rm_g_series_550w_modular_cable.html/prm/alsVwDtl
But I'm wonder if it's a good choice for a good choice to stick by. For those familar with this particular PC, I need a bit of advice concerning software (Bios and Intel Integrated Graphics drivers) as I install the card. I never installed parts in a PC before, so I'm admittedly nervous.

Excellent choice, one of the best quality PSUs on the market, and more than enough power.

Go on Dell's support site for that PC and make sure you download or have the newest BIOS. Some dells have issues with new GPUs if you don't do that.

Next when you install the card it should automatically disable the onboard graphics. If not as long as you see the BIOS just go in and find iGPU or Integrated Graphics and set it to disabled if possible

Dell said Bios hasn't been changed since 2014. I bought this PC this May. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=TFF4H Perhaps it's fine already.

I had 1 driver to update according to Dell, only a Intel Management Engine Interface Driver update.

just double check the power plug on the motherboard, make sure it's a 24 pin plug. many dell computers use "proprietary" power plugs to force you to purchase an overpriced "dell" power supply. I do not know if yours is one of them.

I don't think this PC has a special 24 pin. Do I have to prep any software before the Power Supply? I heard to ignore the disc drivers for the graphics card and just use the website's instead.

Power supply requires no software changes whatsoever. The GPU definitely get the latest drivers from Nvidia, its likely the drivers on the disc are quite old.
