I want to upgrade my R9 270X to a GTX 1070 or 1080. Can I do it without upgrading any other parts?

My Current Specs are as follows:
MSI 970A-G43
PowerColor Radeon R9 270X
AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz
Gigabyte Greenmax Plus 650W

If I do need to upgrade other components, can a suggestion be made to what I should upgrade too. Thank you for your assistance.

Your CPU will easily bottleneck such a powerful video card, you would require something along the line of a high end I5 (4690k, 6600k). Not to mention that motherboard couldn't handle a AMD CPU stronger than what you have anyways, the VRM's on a 970 chipset board is usually terrible, so you would have to replace the motherboard. What kind of budget would you have for upgrading components?

I have about $400 for upgrading components, is it enough?

Its cool. I would say go with a I5 4690k and MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard.
You can get those 2 for $389.98 on newegg, Those 2 should be able to sustain the 1070 or 1080's power.
As long as someone else here can chime in and agree with me, my confidence in that set up would go from 75% sure to 100% sure.

OC'd i5 will give a 1070 what it needs, if you're staying at 1080p/60hz/144hz you don't need 1080.

2k and up you're justifying the 1080's power. I think even going down to a 1060 (faster than 980?) and squeezing in a 1080p 144hz G-sync monitor will give you an amazing experience.

I currently have a 1080p 60Hz Monitor but plan to upgrade to a 1440p Monitor in the future. 1060 is not an option as I'm getting the parts rather soon and can't wait.

My buddy just ordered a 1070 strix for $430 with tax from Jet.com, I'm sure there are also some reasonably priced 1080's out there too if you're still considering one.

If you're going 2k 144hz than you need the 1080.

2k 60hz you can go either way as 1070 will max or require very little tuning if any to hit 60fps avg/min @ 2k.
