Hello, i wanted to know if it would be safe to use the auto overclock feature on my motherboard..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121618

this is my motherboard (Ik its a bit old) its already preset my processor speed to 3.8ghz but i want to push it to at least 4.0 - 4.2 (have an evo 212 cooler) but wanted to make sure it was safe through the auto overclock.

Thank you!!

Off topic - Is this a good motherboard to use for the gtx 1070?

1) Go ahead and try. If it fails it will crash, but shouldn't damage anything

2) I manually modified my Turbo values for my i7-3770K

- the were at something like 39,38,37,36 (lower as more cores used). I ended up getting that stable at 43,43,42,42 without adding voltage. So maybe adjust that if it's an option and start buy jumping by "2" (200MHz).

I can't be more specific because your BIOS setup will be different.

- don't forget about the memory (XMP etc). Overclocking can change those values and make things unstable as well.

3) GTX1070-> it's fine. The motherboard doesn't matter much beyond being compatible which it is.

Other:
Intel has this tool: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24075/Intel-Extreme-Tuning-Utility-Intel-XTU-

You should also run the Intel CPU diagnostic from their site, and Memtest86 www.memtest86.com
