Would it be worth it to upgrade from a 970 to a 1070 in my situation. First off let me tell you I'm 16 and have no job so money has to be well spent, I have about $300 right now and want to know if it's worth it to keep saving up for a 1070. I don't really plan on playing any newer games intensely, I am a csgo player. I can either save another $150 for a 1070 or use the $300 for skins. I already have a 970, i7 4790k, SSD, 16GB DDR3 ram and a 144hz monitor. Would a 1070 really be worth it?

Solution
I doubt that it would be worth it, since you're a CSGO player, and it's not very taxing on hardware. Do me a favor and enable the Steam FPS counter ( steam -> settings -> in-game -> in-game FPS counter ).

Then play CSGO and take note of the frames per second that you're receiving. If the number exceeds the 144 Hz (FPS) of your monitor, then there is no benefit to you upgrading to the GTX 1070; not unless you just want to.

gtx 1070 will give you 40-50$ more performance. do you play on 1080p resolution?

I agree with him. ^^^ You should be perfectly fine with the gpu u have now. You could wait for even some more time for the gtx 1060 but its an unknown price. other than that stick with what u have.

I either play on 1080p or 4:3 1024x768 (weird csgo stuff :p)

I get anywhere from 200-500 fps depending on where I am on maps, I have had the 970 for almost a year and I am just wondering if it will become severely "outdated" soon

It will NEVER get outdated in CS:GO. You're using like max 30% of it if even that.

Nope. Don't let the hype of Pascal's GTX 1070 and 1080's make you think that your card is antiquated; it's just Nvidia marketing at it's best. The GTX 970 is one of my favorite GPUs of all time. I owned the MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G card only last year and absolutely loved it. Loved it! Don't bother upgrading for CSGO. Now if you were talking about BF1 at 1440p, that would be a entirely different story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0QXFtIRSU0

That's the card I have :) I think I'm gonna end up buying my dream knife in CSGO within a few days if I can convince my mom to let me spend $300 for pixels because she already freaks out about me spending so much on my computer lol. I am thinking it's better to buy the knife now while it's the game that I play, and in a few years when I have a job I can buy a new pascal card.

Seriously dude, get a G-sync monitor or a big SSD. Spending 300 on "pixels" is just silly. Grow up!

If I was your mom, I'd be freaked out too. :D
Because it's just thoughtless way of throwing money out in a dumpster. You better earn that money before you spend it on something like CSGO knife.

Eh, debatable, some people think it's worth it(me). People spend thousands and thousands on skins for Counter Strike, and you can always resell the skins -10% of what you paid. G-sync isn't good for high level counter strike and I already have a 250GB SSD along with a 1TB HDD if I decide to play any other games. I also think spending $300 on "pixels" is worth it because I have a dream to go pro in counter strike, which I am already competing in decently high levels right now. Paying for some skins isn't really a bad thing in my eyes :D

You can always resell skins for real money on websites, and they either take 5 or 10% of what you sell them for. My parents just don't want me spending money on stuff they think I won't get anything out of. For example, my sister just went to a concert and spent over $150 to see someone sing, in my eyes that was a waste for only a few hours, at least I get something permanent I can resell :D

Here's a better proposition: take a girl out to dinner for that money :)))

Do whatever YOU want to do man. Not what other people tell you. I recently purchased a brand new PC and went with a 970 (people will call me stupid) but I play CSGO like you and it's perfect for it, I don't need anything better.

But for real, I don't see myself getting a girl to go out to dinner with me LOL

As others have stated, you do not need a GTX 1070 for CS:GO. Your money would be better spent on a faster Internet connection, a more comfortable chair, better mouse/keyboard combo, external DAC, better headphones/set, or anything else to make your gaming experience better.

I already have 200 down 15 up internet, a nice gaming chair, razer deathadder chroma and razer blackwidow, HyperX Cloud 2 headset so I'm good on stuff like that :D

Guys, please be respectful to Paradox, gee whiz. I don't see the video card upgrade doing anything beneficial. Try to think of if there is anything else that really could be u[graded to help you out. Is your computer noisy? Maybe invest money in making it whisper quiet.

Maybe this is why I suck at CSGO. I have a $20 keyboard and mouse and an IPS panel instead of TN. Not to mention that I'm used to playing FPS games with a controller (I don't care what they say, I'm much more accurate with one, even with aim assist off).
