This is a Panasonic DMR E30PP, DVD recorder/player. I got it from Goodwill without the remote. The machine plays DVD's just fine and the built in tv tuner works fine also. My problem is in recording. I tried a brand new (blank DVD R) disk and I got the following error message (this is a non-recordable disk. can't record) when I hit the manual record start button. The samething happens with the DVD R/W disk. Both the DVD R and the DVD R/W disk have never been used. Why won't the machine record?

Solution
I just read the relevant page of the user manual (recording):

DVD-RW & DVD+RW media are not compatible

DVD-R media is compatible, but some brands of DVD-R may not work.

So the recorder may not like that brand of disc.I therefore suggest you try two or three different brands of DVD-R until you find a brand that works.

If still no success, the DVD recorder may be faulty.
