*Short Story*
Title says it all. I'm in Australia.
Here are parts I already have - http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/tTNtJV
*Long Story*
I'm planning to Build a computer for my grandmother, and I'm going to overkill it on the CPU and motherboard by using the ones I have in my rig and selling them to her for a discounted price. I have an AMD FX-8350 cpu and I'm getting rid of that into granny's build. I want to upgrade to an intel cpu and intel motherboard. What would my best bet of a new cpu be? I will have about $440 AUD from selling all my parts and building fee (dont worry, im not ripping her off..., you know how grandmas are), but this is NOT my budget. I will be able to get more money, maybe, but i need to buy ATLEAST a CPU, motherboard and a case. maybe all with a TOPS budget of $600AUD.

I hear the i5 6600K is a great cpu, but quite expensive. ($332 AUD). I definitely want to be able to overclock any CPU I buy.
Please note newegg/amazon prices converted are still going to be a lot cheaper then anything I can buy over here in AUS.

Thanks!!

Solution
Either of those i5's are solid builds, I personally wouldn't mix ddr3 with skylake. There could be potential damage and since the memory controller is integrated in the cpu I'd stick to what's approved by intel which is ddr3L (low power) or ddr4 for skylake cpu's.

Haswell (4th gen) supports ddr3. In terms of people telling you ddr3 was the way to go, for an fx 8350 or haswell based system it was the way to go. You have to use what's compatible with your hardware, it's either ddr3 or ddr4. Am3+ (fx 8350) and lga1150 (haswell) didn't offer ddr4 support. Only x99 (2011v3 enthusiast intel boards for 6-8 core enthusiast i7's). Skylake is the first mainstream motherboard to switch to ddr4 and when amd's zen releases running on the am4...

something like this.

You are exceeding your budget.

There's no easy way to save any more. Basically, you cannot do what you want for the budget you have.

Only the "K" processors can legitimately be overclocked.
I think a i5-6600K and the necessary Z170 motherboard will bust your budget.

I would consider a i3-6100 with a Z170 motherboard that will give you the option to upgrade to a "K" in the future.
Your FX-8350 has a single thread passmark rating of 1504.
The single thread rating is most important for gamers; few games can use more than 2-3 threads.
The i3-6100 has a single thread passmark rating of 2102. That applies to the two main threads. The hyperthreads are considerably less capable.
If your DDR3 ram is low voltage(1.35v) it could be used. But, ddr3 support will be found only on low spec budget motherboards.
You should plan on 1.2v ddr4 ram. 8gb is fine for gaming; speed is irrelevant.

Thanks for this, but I already have memory and a cpu cooler, what i need it cpu, motherboard and a case. This sets me up nicely thought as i can get about a $90 case and still be in my max budget.

*EDIT*
Oh I see now, ddr4 memory... I cant have a mobo with ddr4, must be ddr3 so I can use what I have.

I'm sorry I dont want an i3 and I dont want somehting that can be upgraded as I get more money. This is the CPU i will be keeping until it is useless. I can not justify, by any means justify getting rid of my ddr3 ram, its under a year old. Surely there are quality mobo's that take ddr3... right? How much performance boost do you get anyway? It isnt like ddr3 is getting outdated.. right?

Wow actually now looking at it... ddr3 ram is outdated. I purchased my ram less than a year ago and EVERYONE said ddr3 was the go. But there is no way I can exceed my budget of 600, even that is pushing it.. Even if I can afford ddr4 ram, I dont know what I will do with my ddr3, its $100 worth of ram (at the time).

is the best I can do, a Haswell i5 that can use your existing memory. The motherboard is cheaper than I like but should get a 4.6 Ghz overclock.

Either of those i5's are solid builds, I personally wouldn't mix ddr3 with skylake. There could be potential damage and since the memory controller is integrated in the cpu I'd stick to what's approved by intel which is ddr3L (low power) or ddr4 for skylake cpu's.

It looks like you spent quite a bit even by Australian dollar standards on that ram. Either ram prices have dropped a lot recently or something because there are lots of ram options at 2x4gb for around $50 aud brand new and at faster speeds than yours. Ddr4 and ddr3 are about the same price now, $55 for 8gb (2x4gb).

You mentioned wanting to reuse your ram but making a system for grandma, what ram is going in hers? Does she already have ddr3 ram, otherwise you'd be buying ram for the fx 8350 build for her or giving her your old ram. It's going to need memory from somewhere.

I know all the prices don't have a website, that is because they are cheapest from MSY or another computer store that is local to me. All parts marked purchased, as you probably gathered are the ones I allready own.

Yes after a fair amount of research now I can see that ddr4 is what I want, I also did not realise the price drop since a year and a half ago. I have decided to recycle my ram into the 8350 build and go with this:

I'm still not sure 100% on the motherboard, although it will be this or the Asus Z170-P
