Hey everyone, I am looking at upgrading the build I currently have and was wondering what would be the best CPU that can get the best out of a GTX 1080.

So far I have thought about getting a i5 4690, but wondered if the i5 4460 will get the exact same performance, or if a i7 4790 would be a better choice. Currently at the moment I dont have a budget for the CPU, I dont mind spending the extra cash, but was wondering what would get the best out of the GTX 1080 and if a cpu is overkill for the GPU. Not looking to OC the CPU along with the fact my Motherboard cant OC a CPU.

Also pointing out im using this for gaming mostly and I know an i7 can be overkill, but if it helps the GPU that extra mile, then im happy! getting a 1440p 144hz monitor so I want to get the best out of it with the GTX 1080, or may get whatever GPU comes out overtime as ill be making slow upgrades over everything through out the rest of the year. (GPU being the last purchase)

My Current Specs:

Motherboard: MSI B85-G43 Gaming Motherboard
CPU: Intel Core i3 4170
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 960 Gaming 2GB
PSU: Corsair RM-550 80 Plus Gold Power Supply

I dont think I will be upgrading my Motherboard as its fine as is and im not particularly looking at Overclocking my cpu unless it makes a major boost for the GTX 1080 im planning on getting

Would you say there is a difference between the i5 4690 and the i7 4790? I dont worry much about the budget, but if there wasnt a difference between the i5 and the i7, i may as well buy the i5. Plan on recording music in the future as well so an i7 would probably help me out more than an i5
