Hey gang. I haven't updated my computer for 5 or so years and since the new GTX 1080 / 1070 cards came out. I"m looking for some help.

Power Supply: Corsair TX 750W
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770
CPU: Intel Core i7 2700k overclocked to 4.5 using cooler master air
Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3
Memory: 8 gigs DDR3

I don't have a large budget but I could swing purchasing the GTX 1070 since I was assuming it would give me the largest performance increase. Will my current motherboard be able to tap into the power of the new card and will it be compatible with my current system?

Thanks for the help!

Your processor will work but will limit the new card somewhat, thats what the article I sent shows examples of. But yes you will still see a massive improvement with the 1070 and then could upgrade your cpu later knowing that you would be improving both..

When you say, my processor will not support the new card, do you mean they will not be compatible together and therefore not work or my sandy bridge processor will slightly bottleneck my new card since its not running on ivy bridge architecture?

I wouldn't be able to upgrade to ivy bridge with a comparable clock speed and get a new GTX 1070 at the same time. Wouldn't I still see a large performance increase from jumping from 770 to 1070 and leave myself open to upgrading to ivy bridge later when I budget some more money or would it not be worth it until I can upgrade both of them?
