Hi hopefully I am doing this right. I have a computer that's about 5 or 6 years old now. Following specs

CPU: Intel I5 3570k
ram: 16gb (blackline mushkin is all I can remember)
motherboard: ASRock z77 Extreme4
PSU: Fairly sure its 650w
Video card: Nvidia 670 (EVGA)

I am noticing that I can't pump game graphics as much anymore (Dark souls 3 can have bad frame rates unless I lower graphics). I want to upgrade it but wanted to make sure there wouldn't be compatbility issues/have a good enough PSU. Also would like recommendations for upgrade. I am thinking of picking up Nvidia 1070 but I don't know anything about the AMD stuff (I have heard of issues with their cards and specific games but not sure).

Thanks for the advice

Solution
I think I'll need a bit more information to see what is causing the failure. But as of right now, I'd say the RX 480 because most Corsair +80 Bronze PSUs are awful.

I'm 90% sure it's the corsair 650w bronze. I am at work for the next couple hours so I can give a better answer then if this isn't enough. I looked at the 1070 and saw they were pretty expensive. I'm thinking of spending like 500 bucks

Uh I'm not sure I understand. There's no failure. I'm just wondering about a graphics card upgrade...
