I have a AMD FX6300 3.5GHz 6 core CPU and I was wondering if I needed an update before using this with my motherboard that is a MSI 970 Gaming motherboard. In PC part picker it said "some AMD 970 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vishera CPUs" I don't really know if I have to update. Please help, thank you!

Solution
Shouldn't, no, the warning goes back a long time ago, unless you gt a mobo, that's been sitting on a shel for a year or two should be good to go ;)
thing is don't fix that aint broke unless its a bad stability issue addressed in the notes of a new bios or a compatibility issues as same no need to risk it

I got 2 boards years old ans still on there first release bios and all's good to go

now you got to go look at your cpu list for your board and see your chip in that list and then what bios its supported under then you need to know if or what bios was shipped on youer board from the factory .. could be first release or it could be any of the latest ones ??

according to MSI if this is your board [?? ] the fx 6300 is supported under bios ''M0 ''

Product name: 970 GAMING AMINGAMING BIOS ver.: M.0

FX-Series
Vishera
FD6300WMW6KHK
200
17.5
3.5
6M
8M
C0
FX-6300
95

https://us.msi.com/file/test_report/TR19_3193.pdf

then looking from here it seems your covered under the boards first release witch is bios ''M0''

https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/970-GAMING.html#support_download

so with that it should be good right out of the box for that 6300

now you know how to check these things before hand from the support pages
