Nope, there aren't really year caps on hardware. Some people upgrade in 2yrs, 4yrs, 6yrs. I suppose if the os changes so much that it no longer has compatible drivers and software that support the motherboard it would eventually become obsolete, otherwise it's based on performance and how well it's doing what you need it to. Some people will happily run an i3 for years and others will be looking to upgrade their i5 to an i7 in a year if their needs change.
