Hi there sameermokashi,

Your drive is most probably failing.
You need to try to back up the data stored on the drive. Try to transfer other chunks of data first. If that does not work, then you can try using some data recovery tool or some data recovery tool for DOS mode as Ubuntu Live CD. You will need a flash drive or a CD, boot from it and try to access the drive in order to back up your data: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/267999-32-recover-data-mode

If you don't need the data, you can just test the drive and see what is wrong with it: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

Let me know how this goes,

These look like bad sectors. Could you provide a screenshot of the SMART report?
Most probably you will need to replace the drive. Formatting the drive could help for a while, but as these bad sectors are most probably hardware ones, they would not be fixed and they will continue to appear.

As I am a representative of Western Digital, I can't really suggest or comment on other brands.
If you decide to go with WD, you can take a look at WD Blue and WD Black.

WD Blue - a good everyday usage drive: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=frixoy
WD Black - premium, performance oriented product with 5 years of limited warranty: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=j8CQoD

Well, there's not a specific way on how to maintain a drive. They are vulnerable to hits and shocks. So, you need to properly handle your laptop. Also, you can test the drive from time to time, in order to keep an eye on its health status.
Bad sectors would eventually appear, sooner or later. You need to always back up your data.

Apart from all this, if you open up a new thread with a topic similar to "new HDD for my laptop" or something like that, I believe you will get more HDD and brands suggestions.

Cheers,
