Hey, so it's almost happening, I'm going to build my first PC. Just while the parts are slowly being delivered i thought i'd reach out for some last minute tips. Any help of any kind would be appreciated.

I did have a few questions in mind though, please try to push past the stupidity:

Any specific tools i may need? (apart from the obvious ones)
How do I ground myself from static without one of those wrist bands?
Is there anyway to work on carpet? (eg standing on something between me and the carpet)
How much time should i prepare to build it? (I am following a video with very similar parts)

Thanks in advanced :^]

For the most part you will probably need nothing more than a phillips screwdriver. One with a long thin neck is probably best. Racheting screwdrivers come in handy, but their handles are often too thick for some of the nooks you might end up having to work in. Other than that, I sometimes find a good pair of needle nose pliers or tweezers to be useful.

Also, make sure you have some decent thermal paste for your CPU. Don't just use whatever came with your heatsink. I'm partial to Arctic Silver 5, since I've been using it for ages.

Don't worry too much about static. Unless you have been rubbing your socks against the carpet, you likely haven't built up much of a charge. I don't use anti-static bands and work on carpet all the time. If you want to make sure you aren't carrying a charge, touch something metal - like the case - to ground yourself before handling any components.

Set aside an entire day, or at least most of one. In my experience, building a PC always takes longer than expected, and after you're done building it you still have to install the OS and all the software you need. You also need to set aside some time to test that it's working properly; more so if you plan on overclocking.

Also read this post about common mistakes people make when building PCs. I forgot the mobo standies in my 1st build. Took me hours to figure that one out (this was before Tom's and always on internet).

Good luck.
