Morning all

I have a pretty old (circa 2010) pc with an AMD Phenom ii X6 1055t, 16gb of 1333hz DDR 3 RAM and a 7200rpm hard drive. It is not over clocked and has a budget Coolermaster CPU air fan on it.

I want a budget rig to use in my living room with a controller. Would this set-up be enough to use with an RX 480 for gaming at 1080p? I'd be looking to play modern titles like Mad Max, Batman Arkham Knight, GTA 5 etc. On my main rig I've noticed GTA V and Batman can be quite CPU heavy, and am worried it'll bottleneck to the point of being unplayable.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

with that cpu if you are not going to upgrade a 960 or 380 is just as good given that cpu will not really let the 480 run at full power
if you plan on...

if you plan on upgrading your cpu then a 480 is a better choice

Thanks for your help chaps.

Unfortunately the motherboard only supports AM3 socket CPUs so upgrading to the AMD FX range is out. Upgrading to a Phenom X6 1100T (the best performer for that chip set) is probably not going to provide much performance increase.

I'll get a 4gb GTX 960 and give it a go with the Phenom. If it bottlenecks too much I'll just start a new build, even if I haven;t really got the time!!

Thanks again.

I have a 4gb gtx 960 and phenom t1035 x6 overclocked to 3.2ghz. My cpu doesn't quite max out during gaming. Its in the range of 70 to 80 percent or lower depending on the game. I'd say get the rx 480 or gtx 1060 being that they arent much more money.
