Hello!

I am very interested about Oculus Rift. Before buy one, I have an important question.

My PC has a power supply of 500W. When I will do a game with Oculus Rift, how power will be require 400W? More? Less?

My PC is: http://www.asus.com/us/Tower-PCs/G11CD-Oculus-Ready/specifications/

Thank you for your help.
I ask this question because I need informations about energy consumption. I don't have the oculus Rift right now.
Bye!

Solution
Your PC has the correct power supply of 500w. The oculus rift will not cause you to need a new power supply.

Also the link you provided says the PC is "oculus ready" you are good to go.
The OR connects to your PC but comes with its own power supply. It doesn't have to draw any power from your PC. If you don't power it up it draws very little power from your USB connection (2,5 watts most per USB connection), a mechanical harddrive draws more power in comparison.

Thank you bootcher!

The OR has its own power supply? Interesting. So I need to find the power of the OR. I haven't seen any informations about that.

So for my PC, if he has a power supply of 500W, maybe he will be used maybe 250W because CPU and Graphic card need to work intensively for the oculus rift, no?

"The OR connects to your PC but comes with its own power supply."

False, after verification, the oculus rift hasn't its own power supply. You just have to connect at your usb plug.

Yes thank you, but I just want to estimate my energy consumption. When I will used the oculus, I think that the pc will use something like 350-400W and when I will surf on the net, maybe 150W?

I don't know if I make the good assumptions/approximations?

Research better mate, it comes with a power supply, specifically a power supply to power up an USB hub, should your PC's USB ports not be able to provide enough power.

I send an email to Oculus. Their answer:

Hey Alex,
I appreciate the follow-up.
My apologies for any miscommunication.
The Rift doesn't have a power supply.
As such, we don't have an answer for that.
Let me know if you have other questions.
Note, your system is compatible.
Have a nice day,
Jericho
