GTA Driving is driving my FPS down?

Hi folks,

I know their is similar topics online about this but none really come to a decent awnser.

my specs are listed in my Signature.

I don't think its thermal throttling as GTA was totally fine then a few weeks ago it has happend. on and off!

I know the FX series cpu's so get low fps states every now and then but after a certain speed in gta on a car and or a helicopter it goes nuts.

nothing is overclocked anymore and the game is on Medium settings.

Latest driver is installed too.

Did you make sure there's no throttling? Monitor the thermal margins with AMD Overdrive while stress testing the CPU. The thermal margins should be 10°C or higher and the frequency should not drop to 1.4 GHz.

First thing I did,

I saw it drop to 1.2 for a second but went back up.

No idea what it can be, If it was thermal throttling in some way, how would I go around to fixing it?

Start by making sure it throttles or not. What happens when you stress test the CPU with Prime95 Small FFTs? Are the thermal margins fine? Does the frequency ever drop? Could you provide a link to your motherboard? I can't find the AsRock Fatality 970A.

You selected a best answer, but your issue isn't fixed; that's why I unselected it. If the CPU always runs at its full frequency and it never drops to 1.4 GHz while playing (easy to see in Resources Monitor where the frequency will always be maxed out), then check the GPU. FPS can't all of a sudden drop if nothing throttles.

Yeah I know it can't, although its only when driving at high speeds. It was fine, although a few updates later from GTA it does this.

Then it may be an update to GTA that requires more resources. What is very busy when FPS drops? the CPU or the GPU?
