DDR2 memory still expensive in 2016? Why?

I have an old HP Workstation xw4600 (actually 2) that I am still using until I get a more stable living situation. These workstations use DDR2 memory (PC2 - 6400 ECC, Unbuffered 800mhz). It has been the most expensive memory combination for this class of memory I have ever seen. DDR2 has all but been classified as dinosaur memory, but still - in 2016, even after two generations of memory has surpassed it - I cannot find it for sale ANYWHERE without the prices just as high as it was when it was new. These prices that I see do not reflect the desirability of DDR2 - I don't know WHAT they reflect but they are way out of line! There has been discussion, in the past of why DDR2 prices skyrocketed (manufacturer fire) but how about NOW. Why is it in 2016 that DDR2 isn't dirt cheap, dig through the pile at the flea market price??? I'm seriously looking at just throwing my system out and buying another - would be cheaper than the 6 gigs of DDR2 that I've been waiting for to come down in price forever.

Solution
Supply and demand. It is actually much more now than when it was new.

Last I checked 2x 4GB sticks of DDR2 was like $600 USD. It is because it is not manufactured anymore and people still want it. Some people would rather pay $1200 for 16GB of DDR2 (in the form of 4GB sticks) than buying a brand new PC that is much faster with more RAM for much much less.

The thing is, these systems that need the RAM are still in widespread use, hell you have two rigs with DDR2. I still got my old AMD Phenom II rig in the closet and enough parts to build another one. Customers that bring their PC's in are still using very old PCs. Most of them are still running Windows XP, A very small handful has 7 installed and none have anything newer.

And yes...

And yes, you should get a new PC, it would be cheaper than upgrading the RAM.

Some of the prices some of you posted are higher than the ones I was talking about, lol. I think I mis-posted this, should have been a discussion, not looking for answers.
