My current setup includes 3 monitors connected to a GTX970 SLI using 2 DVI ports (one in each board) and an HDMI one but I'm planning to upgrade to a single GTX1080 and save for the ASUS Strix which is pretty much impossible to get where I live all the boards have just 1 HDMI, 1 DVI and 2/3 DPs.

My question is (or rather are).

Can I use a DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter to connect the third screen while still being able to enable NV Surround? According to nvidia's page any combination of connectors can be used for surround on a single GPU setup but would like to be sure an adapter would not get in the way. This would basically be using one of the DP output on the board to connect to the HDMI input on the screen.

Will I lose performance or image quality? I assume not since the screens are nothing impressive really, just 1080p IPS LG screens.

Are there any other downsides at using an adapter in this setup that I should be aware of?.

The potential cards I might be buying are the these:

If there's one in particular you'd recommend please let me know too :D.

Thanks!.
