Hi there,

I'm looking to upgrade my PC, and I want it to be awesome, so I need you guys' help/advice/recommendations!

The specs of my current build should be somewhat redundant, because everything (except the chassis) is going to be replaced anyway. So I'm only going to list the components I'm considering.

Here goes:
Chassis: Cooler Master HAF932

PSU: EVGA SuperNova 850 P2 (Is 850W enough?)

MB: Asus ROG Rampage V Edition 10

CPU: Intel Core i7 5820k

Cooler: Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 series (I'm not really sure about memory. I want to run 64 or 128GB in quad-channel. But I have no clue about frequency, or if this memory series/brand is the right choice?)

Graphics: Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme (I'm not sure about this either, as I haven't seen any reviews. I just know, the 980-version was a monster, and this one should be too. Also, I've heard some bad stuff about the Asus 1080 ROG Strix.)

Storage: Samsung 950 Pro 512GB (I've just read about the SM961.. Is that something, I should wait for? Will it be in the same price-range?)

So, there you go. These are my main considerations at the moment.

My questions are:
Will all these components fit nicely together in my chassis?
Do you see any apparent bottlenecks?
Any big announcements I should wait for, before I make the order?
Would you recommend some other components to consider instead of these?
Other important things to consider?
Am I missing something?

I probably have a whole lot of other questions, when we get into this, but those are the ones popping into mind.
This is my first post on Tom's, so if I'm missing something (is this the right category for this thread?), don't hestitate to tell me. English is not my native language, so please be kind. ;-)
Every input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you all in advance!

Before I answer your questions, I want to ask you, will you do 3 or 4 way sli? If the answer is yes, then you're gonna need a case that has 8 pci slots. No, I don't see any bottleneck at all. Again, will you do 3 or 4 way sli? If yes, you're gonna need 1000w psu minimal. If you only need 1 graphics card, 850W is overkill. 600w until 750W will save you some money. 64gb and 128gb is OVERKILL for a normal PC, even if you do 4k editing. 16gb or 32gb will save you some money to buy something that's more important. Other than those, you're good.

Those components would work together fine, but unless you want to do some SERIOUS overclocking, I'd get a different Mobo. The Godlike Carbon is massively overpriced imo. Also, I'm pretty sure the only difference between the Godlike and the Godlike Carbon are aesthetics. I'd recommend the ASUS ROG Strix X99 or the MSI X99 Plus. Also, I'd wait for the SM961. If it isn't right for you, it'll only drive down the price of the 950 Pro. The PSU should be completely fine as well (in fact it's overkill for 1 GPU). Also, you don't need anywhere as much RAM, I'd just spend the extra on more storage, an AIO cooler or some extra fans.

3 way and 4 SLI aren't even supported with the GTX 1080, so he doesn't need to worry on that front.

I'm pretty sure they went back on that. Also, the support for it is going to be basically nonexistent. Either way I think we can both agree that there is no point in more than 2 1000 series GPUs in SLI.

First of all, thanks for the fast response.
About SLI: No, I'm not going to run 3- or 4-way SLI. I might upgrade to 2-way SLI in the future, which is why I chose the 850W PSU - I thought 850W would be just fine for that. It's not?

About memory: I know, it's overkill ;) But, from where I'm from, the price-per-GB is much lower, when you buy more. So I won't save much money from going down to 32gb or less.

Also, thank you for the quick reply. :)
I see the logic in not buying the godlike gaming, but for now I'm sticking with it, as the only downside at the moment is the price (+ I'm in love with it :ange: )
Good idea on waiting on the SM961. I didn't think about the fact, that it will most certainly drop the price of the 950 Pro.

You say, the components will work fine together, which is nice.
Do you have any idea, if it will fit into my chassis? Physically speaking.

The Haf 932 is a pretty huge case if I remember correctly. As long as it supports EATX (which it almost certainly will do), you'll be set. If you are going completely balls to the walls overkill, go for it.

It should support it according to Cooler Master's website, so I'm all good, I guess.
Regarding overkill on the RAM: My balls are already firmly placed on the walls. :pt1cable:
Thanks again.

Any RAM/Memory experts in here? I really need advice on which RAM I should choose.
As stated in the article, I'm currently considering G.Skill Ripjaws 4 series. Are those good?

More importantly: what frequency (MHz) should I go for?
Also, please advice me in CL-rating.

Thank you :)

Alright, thank you. I will look for those frequencies. :)
CL rating is the CAS Latency rating of the RAM. I don't know the specifics. I just know, that the lower the CL-rating is compared to the frequency, the better. ^^

Can you please explain your last sentence? I don't quite understand :)

Ahh, I see. Thanks for rephrasing. :)
So I should go for 2400. Do you know, if the motherboard has been tested to work best with a specific native RAM frequency?

Alright, so I just stumbled upon something else. I was looking at motherboards again, and the Asus ROG Rampage V Edition 10 came up.
I was going for the X99A Godlike Gaming Carbon, but this looks really good too, and there's practically no price-difference in my country.

What do you guys think? Godlike Gaming Carbon vs. ROG Rampage V Edition 10?

I've been trying to find some good comparison tables, but without success.

Can someone "point out" which board is "best"?
I don't want QC to be in the consideration, because RMA'ing here is always problem-free and easy in my country.

Sturdiness, specs, real-world performance, features, extras should all be considered.
